The Clients
My clients for this project were Jaime and Chris, a gay male couple in the leather world. They’ve been together for years, and in that time have amassed a large collection of toys for their well-equipped dungeon. They have a wide circle of friends, but not all of them are into kink.
The Challenge
Jaime and Chris wanted an irreverent holiday card with a sexy feel, to send to only their ‘leather’ friends.
The Solution
I met with them in their dungeon to get a feel for their personalities and lives. A topic that came up several times was ass-play, and we all started to smile when I said that a ‘Triple Ripple’-style buttplug looks just like a little Christmas tree. We agreed that I’d use that idea.
To create the tree artwork, I altered a strongly lit photograph of a buttplug to create a high-contrast image. I colorized the image, added the star, and Voilà! Naughty tree!
I realized that a star on top of such a toy would make the experience of using it less than optimal. This inspired me to write the text for the inside of the card: ‘For a happier holiday season, remove the star first!’ Scroll down to see the interior card design.
