The Cans: A Burlesque and Film Event in San Francisco

[‘Burlesque,’ in the modern day, usually refers to] …performances in a variety show format. These were popular from the 1860s to the 1940s, often in cabarets and clubs, as well as theaters, and featured bawdy comedy and female striptease …There has been a resurgence of interest in this format since the 1990s.

More info on Burlesque here.

I recently ran into Lady Monster of The Cans, a burlesque performance and film revue that runs every last Thursday of the month at the Center for Sex and Culture in San Francisco. It looks to be a fascinating (and hot!) time, and I’m definitely planning on going. You can find them online at http://burlesquefilmfest.com/ and on Twitter at @thecanssf. From their website:

The Cans is a unique event to provide context to burlesque: showing films, having panels, hearing stories from legends and other burlesque performers, seeing performances. The Cans gives you insight into the performers, lessons in history and survival, and sexy entertainment.
